Enabling personalized and intensive therapy throughout the continuum of care

Cereneo Foundation – Center for Interdisciplinary Research (CEFIR) is a non-profit organization that conducts applied clinical research at the intersection of technology and neurorehabilitation.

Cereneo – Center for Interdisciplinary Research (CEFIR) is a non-profit research organization with the goal of improving the standard of treatment in neurorehabilitation by furthering scientific knowledge about neurorehabilitation, especially in combination with technical and digital tools. To this end, we focus on producing high impact scientific outputs along with open datasets and open digital methods that we aim to publish in adherence to the FAIR principles. We are a strong proponent of open science and target most publications to open access journals. All of our research employees have undergone rigorous scientific training at renowned universities and most are involved at some level in teaching at universities.

Next to our main focus on research aimed at bettering the lives of those suffering from neurological disease, CEFIR has an educational aspect. Our staff supervise PhD students afrom various universities in different capacities and host opportunities for master theses or internships throughout the year. In these learning opportunities, our focus lies on scientific integrity and excellence along with personal development.

We endeavor in a small, focussed, and highly motivated research unit to provide scientific excellence on par with larger universities in our specific topic, however with the added benefit of being able to directly access the clinical routine of patients in neurorehabilitation at cereneo – center for neurology. The clinic and the foundation are organizationally separated and there is no bearing of the clinic on the research performed at the foundation. The uniqueness of the foundation’s position has lead to us being included in a wide network of interdisciplinary teams, from the major Swiss universities and hospitals to international institutions and industry.
